For the last couple of years, most AI conversations have been about content. Better writing, better images, faster coding.
I'm starting to think something even more interesting is happening.
Instead of replacing software, AI may help us build software that's designed around the way we work.
Think about it.
For years, if you needed a new feature, you searched for another SaaS product. If the platform didn't work exactly the way you wanted, you adapted your workflow to fit the tool.
AI is starting to flip that idea.
Now it's becoming realistic to build small applications, dashboards and workflows that solve one specific problem without needing an entire development team. We're already seeing people create custom dashboards, internal tools and automation that would have been difficult or too expensive just a few years ago. Similar projects are becoming more common across the AI community, especially around coding assistants and workflow automation.
I don't think this means traditional software disappears. Large platforms will continue to play an important role.
What may change is the number of people who decide to build exactly what they need instead of waiting for someone else to build it for them.
That idea caught my attention while writing about AI and SEO workflows on NetContentSEO. The article focuses on SEO, but the same question applies far beyond search.
Maybe AI won't just change how we work.
Maybe it'll change who gets to build the tools we work with.
